If you’ve been around the last few years you’ve probably heard that email marketing is the best thing for helping your small business grow and starting a list (even if you are brand new) is highly recommended. We also know that we can’t always count on social media to reach our followers, but we can count on dropping into their inbox when needed. So, the question is, what’s the best email marketing platform for small businesses?

Well, over the last 15 years, I’ve experimented with platforms like Mailchimp, Convertkit, and Klaviyo. But about four years ago, a whole new email platform called Flodesk launched.

I know it’s always risky trying new tech (and having to move a list of 10k over), but between the price point and the creativity that Flodesk had to offer, it was simply CALLING me.

With that being said, I could probably go on about all the things I love about Flodesk and how often they make new updates and listen to us users, but more recently they’ve rolled out some features that can make your emails even more effective and engaging. So, below are a few of my favorite little things about Flodesk :)

1. Spinner Forms

First up, we have spinner forms—a fun and interactive way to encourage subscribers to join your list or opt-in to a freebie. With spinner forms, you can choose your layout and personalize the style, colors, and freebie “prizes.” You even get to decide which freebie is the “grand prize.” It’s such a playful way to boost engagement and grown your subscriber numbers.

You can create a sale/discount spinner or even a ‘spin to win’ style that gives them a freebie or download. The ideas are endless with these and with the customization, you are guaranteed to make it ‘on brand’ and fun 🙂

2. Saved Favorites & Font Styles

Favorite’ blocks are another easy way to duplicate/re-use design blocks you’ve previously created. I always save a header, footer, shop CTA, etc. It makes it SO much quicker when creating new emails when you have pre-designed blocks to work from.

Another somewhat recent update is the ability to set your custom fonts and create favorite ‘blocks’. Brand fonts can make such a difference when not only aligning your emails to your website/etc, but making your emails stand out. We are now able to not only upload our custom fonts, but now create custom headings, buttons, paragraph text, etc.

3. Shareable Form Templates

For paid Flodesk members, shareable form templates makes it easy to collaborate. Just like shareable email templates {like mine over at Northfolk}, you can now share your beautifully designed forms through a unique link. It makes it easy to not only sell beautifully designed templates but also design custom emails/forms for clients. So yes, as a designer, the option to FINALLY create a beautifully branded website WITH matching email templates is a game-changer.

5. Video Forms

Let’s talk about video forms 🙂 I know having video on a checkout page can help close a sale, so having one on a form can definitely help build trust. They say it can help boost conversions by 80%..which is A LOT.

You can embed YouTube or Vimeo videos into your forms, complete with custom thumbnails and design options for the playback button. Visitors can watch your video while completing the form, making it a great way to showcase your services or share a personal message.

4. Link Actions

This has been a HUGE update for so many of us. Link actions give us the ability to add automation(s) when someone clicks on a specific link within an email, such as: add to a segment, remove from the segment, add to a workflow, remove from a workflow, or update a custom field.  I just did that for my ‘exclusive launch list’ for my new template.

Within the email, I invited those interested in being on a specific list to receive first access to the template (with bonuses). When the user clicks on the link, it adds them to a segment I created and directs them to THIS page.

The best part of Link Actions is that you can easily have a subscriber opt-out of a list they are on. So, if you are launching something and they simply are not interested, you can have them opt out. Just another reason why Flodesk is the best email marketing platform for small businesses.

6. E-Commerce Options

This needs a moment ;) Not only have they added the option to add E-Commerce blocks to your emails, but now we have the option to create sales pages and a checkout. From digital downloads, and physical products, to service bookings. We can now easily create a high-converting sales page and checkout through Stripe.

7. Countdown Form

The option to add a countdown in your email isn’t anything new to Flodesk, however, adding an actual countdown to a form is. I personally think this is way better because it will create a sense of urgency to signup.

The best part, once the timer is expired the form will automatically become a waitlist. This is perfect for courses, new products, early-bird sales, events, etc.
