This or That :: What’s in your Moisturizer

Beauty

Okay, so I’m starting a small series on a few BEAUTYCOUNTER I use and putting them up against some other brands to show you a comparison in the ingredients (and some are pretty terrible). So a question to you: Have you ever thought about what’s in your moisturizer ? I want to challenge you today to go grab one you use and search the ingredients within it, then go deeper and take a peek on www.ewg.org at some of those ingredients. Keep in mind when researching that your moisturizer is something that is literally soaking into your skin all day and night…

Okay, so on the left side is the Beautycounter day cream moisturizer I use and on the right is one I previously used in the past, so take a look below on what I found..

HOPE IN A JAR

TOCOPHERYL ACETATE ::  strong evidence that it is a human skin toxicant, and in vitro tests cells showed positive mutation results, linking it to cancer. skin sensitizer to cause itching, burning, scaling, hives, and blistering of skin

TRIETHANOLAMIN :: can cause allergic reactions including eye problems, dryness of hair and skin, and could be toxic if absorbed into the body over a long period of time. It has been shown to cause bladder and liver cancer.

PARABENS :: Parabens, used to extend the shelf life of their products, mimic estrogen, and linked to hormone disruption, DNA damage, increased skin aging, and even some cancers

RETYINYL PALMITATE :: A form of vitamin A, which increase cell turnover and exfoliation, leaving skin more susceptible to damage from UV rays.

BEAUTYCOUNTER

SORBITAN OLIVATE :: Emulsifier from Olive oil. It reduces skin water loss, has a high moisturizing effect, is hypoallergenic an faciltiates the retention of skin moisture.

ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN :: (glycerin) Used instead of controversial PARBENS, derived from grains and plants,  it has been found to be an irritant to the skin in two studies, causing allergic contact dermatitis.

  1. Thanks for the honesty in this post. There’s nothing worse than using a product in which you do not know what the ingredients do nor do you know how to pronounce the words

It’s just crazy that my husband and I a few years ago started to really think about what we ate and started to monitor what we were putting in our body….yet I was using face cream that has research proving it can cause irritation, cancer, and more. It just didn’t make sense. BUT, even crazier is that it’s the first thing that has worked for my skin in 5 years…
