It’s all about communication

Hi friends, I cannot believe how little I have been blogging..and I HATE it! The past couple months have been absolutely chaotic for me, there was one week that I went to bed past midnight and would rise at 5:30..just to get some design time in and respond to emails.  This is by no means is a pity party,  I am beyond thankful for how busy I have been and in awe by the amount of lovely emails I receive about my work!  BUT, I am actually struggling…I cannot seem to grasp the time management aspect of my company. (and basically working 2 other jobs).

I graduated with an emphasis in Interpersonal Communication and am now realizing that it is playing a huge role in my business…because it kills me if I do not respond to an email right away!! For those who have emailed me lately or have previously worked with me have probably realized how quickly I respond to my emails…it’s like an addiction. But, as important as it is to show my clients or potential clients that they are important I also think it has been impeding my actual focus…my design.

When I get home at 5:30 I typically respond to emails, create quotes, take notes, and respond to some more emails. This process is daily and takes roughly 3 hours(I have to eat at some point in there, at my desk)..which leaves me with basically 3 hours of design time before I start to mix mustard yellow with crimson red (eew..and just kidding) but soon realize I need some sleep.  So I wake up at 6-6:30, shower/get ready, and then work again for 2 hours (send some more emails) and then head off to work. So I really only get at most 5 hours of design time and do what I absolutely love to do. (sad)  Thank god for weekends though.

So after my crazy rambling and my lack of sleep I just wanted to share with you that each and everyone one of you who email me is important, and I am trying so hard to manage my time between client correspondance and design and make sure that what I am producing is a product I am absolutely proud of.  So I guess the point of this long ass post is that I have had to put my blog on the back burner while I spend time focusing on my clients and potential clients.  I think as I get the swing of things and get a better idea of how many logos or sites I can do a month I will have more time to spend on myself and my business/blog.

I mean, for those who know me and know my obsession with zombies, I haven’t even watched the walking dead yet…and I’ve been looking forward to it for months! That is how busy I am!  (woop woop though :)

Time management is a big problem for me too but in a slightly different way. A internet business is a blessing and a curse. The internet is so convenient but then it can also be a great distraction. The beginning of my day starts out with the promise of productivity but then I will look at the clock and 4 hours have gone by and all I have managed to do is get a little more addicted to Pinterest and eaten my way through a box full of Thin Mints!;-)

Aaaahh, I feel ya…and mine were samoas (or whatever you call them these days!) And I agree, a computer in general is a distraction. Looking forward to building your brand though, send me over your tagline when you are ready!
