If there was one thing I could tell you to do for yourself (as a wedding vendor or creative) it would be to go to the Camp Wed Retreat at Camp Wandawega this September. First off, let me just tell you a little more about Camp Wandawega (more HERE too). Once you arrive, you feel like you were transported back into the early decades, from the 20s to the 70s. It started out as a speakeasy in the mid 1920s, then a brothel in the 1930s, a resort getaway in the 50s, and beginning in the 1960s, a Latvian Catholic Church camp. So yeah, you can expect to feel like you are simply taken back into what seems like simpler times. Also, they have a manifesto of low expectations, meaning you will probably sleep on a 90 year old bed frame, possibly shower with a spider or two, and obviously get some spotty wifi ;)
Now, as for Camp Wed, it is a three-day retreat made up of wedding and creative professionals from all over the country. Campers are treated to workshops and nationally sourced camp counselors to fuel creativity and bolster their small businesses. Not only that, but you can expect the littlest of details to make the entire experience that much better. Oh, and this year I’m going to be teaching a beginners Watercolor Lettering session! Not only that, but I plan to keep a few of the supplies out throughout the retreat just in case you want to keep practicing!
